Top 10 Late Airport Arrival Excuses
A recent survey has revealed some of the funniest excuses offered by UK holiday makers who were late and almost missed their flights.
Let's take a look at the top ten daftest and most outrageous excuses airline staff have heard from people.
"I had to walk to the airport" - A lady flying to the Dominican Republic from Heathrow nearly missed her flight claiming that she had broken down and had to abandon her car on the M4's hard shoulder. She added that she had to walk "miles and miles" carrying her luggage to make it on time.
"My wife packed our cases" - Prior to flying to Prague from Exeter, a man blamed his wife for his lateness claiming she had packed and repacked the suitcases seven times before believing they hadn't forgotten any important items.
"I couldn't decide what to wear" - A lady flying from Luton to Egypt claimed that the reason for nearly missing her flight was because she couldn't make her mind up about whether she was best flying wearing a tracksuit, skirt/vest top or jeans/t-shirt. She eventually settled for a beach dress with flip flops.
"I had to feed the cats, the dogs and the budgies..." - A man flying from Manchester to Italy blamed his lateness on feeding all 17 of his cats plus five dogs and two budgies. He also had to give his neighbour all the care and feeding instructions for his pets while he was abroad.
"My watch is on Brazil time" - A woman only just made her flight from Heathrow to Brazil. She had put her watch back two hours ready to arrive in Brazil in the correct time zone. However, she had forgotten she needed to check in two hours before so made her flight by a whisker.
"I needed to see how the film ended" - Prior to flying from Bristol to Gran Canaria, a woman told airport staff she was late because she'd been watching The Lion King DVD. It was the first time she'd watched it and didn't want to miss the ending.
"I got stuck in the toilet" - A man flying to New York from Gatwick nearly missed his flight saying he'd been stuck on the toilet with an upset stomach, citing food poisoning caused by "substandard food" he'd eaten in the terminal.
"We got carried away on the way to the airport" - Driving to East Midlands airport for a flight to Tenerife, a couple got a bit frisky and pulled into a lay-by for a bit of "quality time". They claimed that they hadn't been together very long time and couldn't help themselves.
"I got too drunk" - Flying to Majorca from Birmingham, a gentleman nearly missed his flight claiming that he'd fallen asleep at the airport bar sat on his stool. He had a twenty minute snooze then luckily woke up and boarded, fit to fly.
"I thought the flight was tomorrow" - A gent thought his flight was the next day when he was due to fly to Tunisia from Cardiff. By a stroke of luck his mum phoned him on the day of the flight reminding him to meet his friends at the airport.
